High Demand for Skilled Workers

Ever since the pandemic, industries around Australia have been facing a skills shortage.

In 2023, 88% of employers struggled to find suitably skilled staff. This number has now dropped to 79%, showing that the problem is lessening, but still very prevalent. A huge factor in this issue is the small population size in Australia, which struggles to keep up with the demand of the labour market. 

The difficulty of recruiting skilled staff has led to increased immigration levels to Australia. According to research by Indeed, the 2022-2023 financial year had the highest number of granted temporary skilled visas in nine years. 

The most popular vacancies being filled by temporary workers were in the software space, including:

  • ICT Business Analysts 
  • IT Managers 
  • Developer Programmers

Chefs, Accountants, and Executive Assistants are also in high demand. 

Finally, Engineers can find interesting job opportunities across Australia. Demand across the Civil, Structural, and Grid sectors is high, as the Australian federal and state governments are focused on building new infrastructure alongside decarbonisation and energy transformation projects.
